Smile Away Hunger..!!

JULY 8th 2012 | Cubbon park, Bangalore(India) | 36meals.com Meals Donation Day

“ Millions of people go to bed without food, But Billions of people go to bed without love, care and appreciation!!”  ~Mother Teresa

Appreciable initiative from the youth of Bangalore who responded really well to the one fb update by Mr.Sujit Lalwani (Founder of 36meals.com) who pooled in at cubbon park, one of the most beautiful & largest park of Bangalore. A m glad that I was one among those 20 young leaders who made a decision of doing something amazing and different on early Sunday morning!

36meals.com , a massively growing global project of ONE YOUNG WORLD, where they envision to see a HUNGER FREE world! As rightly put across by Mr.Sujit Lalwani, that people are dying more of hunger than any other diseases in this world. A campaign of offering meals to the needy people was planned and it was executed well more than what was planned.
It was not just a normal campaign where you just offer the meal. It was more like a exciting adventurous task!  We had to get minimum 3 meals (preferably cooked at home) and report at cubbon park at 10am.  More fun started when people started pouring in and each one of them are strangers to you!

The terms of the task were :
> U were paired with a person whom you don’t know.
> U have to go to railway station, park your vehicle & COMPULSORILY take a BMTC bus (public transport bus in Bangalore)
> Go to a random area of Bangalore, Search for the needy people and offer them a meal.
>Not just offering a meal, but care & appreciation too! Make them smile and take a photo with them.
> Report back at 12.45pm.(2 hrs of task, started @ 10.45am)

A brilliant experience started, started knowing about my partner, random bus, random area., unknown people….. Started searching for the people who are in need! We were in need of the people who were in need, indeed! Couldn’t find one for first half an hour, walk of 4 kms…then started finding one by one... We offered 8 meals to different age groups of people from 6 yr young kid to 63 yr old person. Listened to their stories… empathised with their emotions… understood their conditions…

They felt out of the world not just because they got a meal, but they got some ears to listen to them! They blessed us with the joy filled heart to live a fulfilling lives! Just felt bliss! By offering meals , I deposited some good deeds to my account in ‘Bank Of Goodness’, Accountant (God) appreciated me in the form of blessings!

We reported back at dot 12.45pm! Each team was excited to share their experiences. Close to 100 meals were donated to needy people in matter of 2 hours  in 10 different areas of Bangalore! 36meals.com also became a platform to network with like minded people from student community to professionals!

Concluding it, I completely agree with a Mr.Soundaram, software developer from Citrix who told “ Last night, when I got a call from my friend to participate in this campaign, I thought this will be one more normal donation camp. But this was just way beyond my expectation… It was fun, exciting and more fulfilling.!!”

I whole heartedly thank 36meals.com for providing us such opportunity to experience something really heart touching in matter of 3 hours! And also thank ONE YOUNG WORLD, a global organisation which is supporting 36meals.com and many such projects all across the world.

Strongly envisions a day to shut down 36meals.com!
(A HUNGER FREE world where people are NO more dying because of lack of food.)
